Several vacant historic buildings on this former 77-acre Civil War era military post were restored for use as part of the Columbus City Schools’ nationally-recognized Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center. Utilizing unique structures that once served as barracks, stables and offices for the U.S. Army, the completed facilities feature truly unique administrative, instruction, study and performance spaces for high school students immersed in the creative arts, math, science, foreign language, social studies, business and literature.
In addition, the campus includes computer labs, a library/media center, a cafeteria with a dining area, and physical education facilities. The on-site Career Center contains state-of-the-art facilities for those students interested in health science, automobile, construction and business technologies.
During the course of a typical school day, more than 1,100 students and nearly 100 faculty/administrators are located on the campus.
