Columbus Spanish Immersion

Columbus, Ohio

The mission of the Columbus Spanish Immersion Academy is to promote, through a global approach, the acquisition of the Spanish language and an awareness and knowledge of the various cultures that are encompassed by the Spanish speaking world, where students are immersed in the Spanish language from kindergarten through first grade. Children are taught 100% in Spanish for the first two years and then English classes are reintroduced at the second grade level.

This project included the abatement and demolition of an existing school building on the project site and the construction of a new school building for grades Pre-K through 8th. The Academy ended up with a LEED Silver certified facility to help support its program of providing the highest quality education for all students through the cooperation of staff, parents, and community representatives in a caring, productive environment, which is conducive to meeting the total needs of each child.

The new school has a capacity of 550 students and features classroom wings, a gymnasium, cafeteria with a raised stage, library, administrative offices, and playgrounds.

“We are confident that it will nurture the growth of our program as we continue our work to support the development of our bilingual and bi-literate students as they move forward to become a part of a global community.”
