Port Columbus International Airport – Air Traffic Control Tower

Columbus, Ohio

This new 224-foot tower replaced the existing 105-foot tower built in 1953. In addition to the 20-story tower, this project includes a two-story, 26,100 square-foot TRACON and administration building which houses air traffic control equipment, operations and other staff, HVAC equipment and back-up generators. The tower’s unique design incorporates a six-sided cab with only three structural columns allowing a 120-degree span of clear vision; the cab’s glass is angled to reduce glare and to keep it cleaner during rainy and snowy weather. The 604 square-foot cab can accommodate up to nine controllers and includes break room facilities, restrooms, and office and equipment areas.
