The Biosolids Land Application Facility at the Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Columbus project consists of four concrete and masonry tanks – each with a capacity of two million gallons of sludge. These tanks hold the sludge, which is applied to the soil in the spring and at the end of the harvesting season. To give folks an idea of the scale, each tank is 29 feet tall and has eight feet of sloped tank underground.
The facility is the fastest project of its size implemented by the City of Columbus to date. The project involved complex interior and underground piping and complicated tie-ins in an operational plant. All this was achieved with zero recordable incidents and zero lost-time incidents. The project was recognized by the Associated General Contractors of Ohio with the Build Ohio Award in the Industrial/Heavy category.
Congratulations to the team on delivering this project safely and of the utmost quality!
